Lokahi Glass:
Stained Glass by Keiko Okahashi
Our humble attempt of capturing the essense of nature in stained glass...

"Fundamental" 15" x 13" (c) 2002 K. Keiko Okahashi
Inspired by the artwork of Frank Lloyd Wright, we created this panel we call
"Fundamental." The clear glass, while similar, incorporate very different
textures. The clear pieces represent the difference in those who look
similar. The cathedral colored circles represent those who look different
but are really similar in nature. We believe we can all live in harmony by
complimenting each other and celebrating diversity. We all have much to
offer.

"Two Callas on Pink"
13" x 17" A rendition in glass from a painting by Georgia O'Keefe.
"Nobody sees a flower--really it is so small it
takes time--we haven't time and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes
time." Georgia O'Keefe

"Plumerias" 19" x 13"
(C) 2002 K. Keiko Okahashi.
A common site in my native Hawai'i, these flowers are very fragrant. As
kids, we used to get them from our neighbors trees to make leis for special
events.

Keiko's signature piece: Japanese block print of Irises. This panel boasts
over 260 pieces and was her first stained glass creation.
Private Collection of the artist (plus my
mother would kill me if I ever sold this one!)
Many
things in nature are captured beautifully in glass. The use of the tiffany
technique allows for sharper edges and finer lines unlike lead work. Some of
the individual glass pieces here range in size from as small as a dime to as
large as 26" long.
Each sheet of glass holds its own unique properties. Colors, patterns and
textures vary greatly by manufacturer. Stained glass is beautiful because the
colors and design help to bring forth an emotion. Rarely do we find two sheets
exactly alike, so even when we attempt to duplicate our patterns, the feeling
of each piece will be unique.
"In the
middle of difficulty lies opportunity."
Albert Einstein

Gari's signature piece: Sunset. This panel boasts 250 pieces using a
variety of textures including ripples and waterglass. This is an incredible
piece especially when the sun shines directly on the panel.
Private collection: San Mateo, California
