Kiln Worked Glass Jewelry by K. Keiko Okahashi

"The purpose of art is not a rarified, intellectual distillate--it is life, intensified, brilliant life.  --Alain Arias-Misson

The Hawaiian Petroglyphs Collection (c) are taken from rock carvings in Hawaii.  These are hand etched on dichroic glass and fired in kilns up to 1500 degrees.

Salmon and Rainbow Keychains,
Spirit Bears and Spirit Wolf pendants!!

Bears are well known in Native American culture as a symbol of strength, mother and healing.  Wolves are symbolic of teachers and pathfinders.  They also symbolize loyalty and preserverence.

Below are sample pieces of what we call the "Elements" collection (c). Earth and Water pendants are with sterling silver chains.  Air and Fire are samples of wire wrapped pendants.

A little bit of information about dichroic glass...

Most of our jewelry pieces are made with a newer type of glass made with a dichroic coating.  Dichroic (from the Greek words- "di" meaning "two," and "chroic" meaning "color") is a special crafted glass that reflects and transmits two different colors. The dichroic coating is a type of crystal that is thinly and evenly applied to the sheet of glass.  It is extremely difficult to capture colors exactly and there can be a range of up to 30% from one value to another.    Dichroic glass is difficult to photograph well as the colors tend to change in different light and angles.  But all these variables make this glass exciting to work with and the colors and depth are just amazing!
